GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 3, 2023) —Gerhard (Gerry) Coetzee, Ph.D., has been appointed interim dean of Van Andel Institute Graduate School.
He succeeds Founding Dean Steven J. Triezenberg, Ph.D., who has retired after 17 years of exceptional leadership and contributions.
Coetzee is a leading geneticist whose research has revealed new insights into cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
He joined VAI’s Department of Neurodegenerative Science as a professor in 2015. Prior to moving to Grand Rapids, Coetzee served as a faculty member at University of Southern California from 1986 to 2015. He served as Assistant Dean of Research Integrity at USC’s Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center from 2014 to 2015.
